Maintenance & Care: Keep your textile Jewellery like new

How do you care for your Just the Jacket accessories?

Our collection of pins, brooches, button covers, and sleeve holders has been curated with care. Because not all of our textile jewellery is made of stainless steel, it requires a little extra attention to maintain its shine and color for years to come. With these professional care tips, you can prevent discoloration and wear.

1. Avoid contact with water and moisture

The most important rule for your textile jewellery: keep it dry. Unlike stainless steel, other metals can oxidize or discolor when they come into contact with water.

  • Take off your accessories before exercising (sweat), walking in a heavy rain shower, or before washing your textiles.
  • Be careful with perfume, hairspray, and body lotion. Allow these products to dry completely before pinning on your jewellery

2. Clean without water

Has your favorite brooch or button cover become a bit dull? Never use harsh cleaning agents or liquid silver polish.

  • Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth (such as a glasses cleaning cloth) to gently wipe away dust and fingerprints.
  • For tricky corners around a pin, you can use a soft, dry toothbrush.

3. Store safely (dark & dry)

Metal can react to oxygen and sunlight. If you leave your jewellery out in the open on the windowsill, it can tarnish faster.

  • Store your button covers, pins, and brooches in a closed jewellery box or container.
  • Place them in a dark spot, away from direct sunlight.
  • Pro tip: Store your accessories separately to prevent scratches on the metal.

4. Protect your clothing and the clasp

Our pins feature a sturdy butterfly clasp or a rubber cap, while our brooches often have a magnetic clasp.

  • Check occasionally to see if the butterfly clasp still clamps tightly around the pin.
  • Always slide a magnetic clasp sideways away from the fabric instead of pulling straight on it; This is better for the magnet and for the fibers of your jacket.

5. Care of sleeve holders

Our fabric sleeve holders are designed for everyday comfort and style. Because the fabric and elastic can lose their stretch and color due to frequent washing, we recommend washing them as little as possible.

  • Do not machine wash: The heat and spin cycle of a washing machine can damage the fine fibers and elasticity of the sleeve holder.
  • Choose hand washing: Is a refresh really necessary? Then gently hand wash the sleeve holders in lukewarm water with a small drop of mild detergent.
  • Dry naturally: Never use a dryer. Let the sleeve holders dry lying flat in the open air. Avoid direct, bright sunlight to prevent discoloration of the fabric.
  • Sleeve holders featuring charms cannot be washed.
